About Us
Founded by Marc Cushing in 2001, The Norfolk Workshop began in the back garden of his grandparents’ home in North Norfolk. With a small collection of tools and a converted shipping container as his first workshop, Marc started making bespoke cabinetry and furniture for local clients. John joined him shortly afterwards and, 25 years later, remains an important part of the team as our foreman.
From those modest beginnings, The Norfolk Workshop has grown into a fully equipped workshop with a team of nine, as well as our own office and showroom. North Norfolk is still very much our home: it’s where we live, work and have built our reputation. Although the business has grown, we approach every project with the same care, honesty and attention to detail that shaped Marc’s earliest work.
Today, we work with private clients, interior designers, architects, developers and builders to create beautifully made cabinetry and furniture, designed around the individual space and the people who will use it.
Our Approach
Our work is collaborative from the very beginning. Every project starts with a conversation and a shared understanding of how the space needs to look, feel and function.
We take the time to understand the practical requirements of the brief, but also how the space will actually be used from day to day. From the first ideas through to installation, we work closely with our clients to create something that feels personal, works beautifully and will stand the test of time.
Many of our projects begin as professional relationships and develop into long-standing ones. A large proportion of our work comes through recommendations and returning clients, which means a great deal to us.
Our workshop is now equipped with modern machinery, allowing us to take on larger and more complex projects, but the way we approach our work has not changed. Every piece is designed, made and finished here in North Norfolk, with care and craftsmanship at every stage.
In a world of mass production and short-term solutions, we take pride in making things properly: cabinetry and furniture designed for the individual home, built to last and made to be enjoyed for many years to come.
