Our History
About The Norfolk Workshop
Founded in 2001 by Marc Cushing, The Norfolk Workshop began in the back garden of his grandparents’ home in North Norfolk. With a small collection of tools and a converted shipping container as his first workshop, Marc began crafting bespoke cabinetry and furniture for local clients, driven by a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and thoughtful design. John joined shortly afterwards and remains with the team today as our foreman.
Over the past two decades, that modest setup has grown into a fully equipped workshop, now home to a dedicated team of nine, alongside our own office and showroom space. Rooted in North Norfolk where we live, work, and have built our reputation we continue to approach every project with the same care, integrity, and attention to detail that defined our earliest work.
We work with private clients, interior designers, architects, developers, and builders to create considered, well-crafted cabinetry and furniture, thoughtfully tailored to both space and context.
Our approach
At its heart, our work is collaborative. Every project is built on conversation, trust, and a shared understanding of how a space should look, feel, and function.
We take the time to understand not only the practical requirements of a brief, but how a space will be lived in day to day. From early ideas through to final installation, we work closely with our clients to ensure each piece feels personal, purposeful, and enduring.
Many of our projects begin as professional relationships and develop into long-standing ones. Much of our work comes through recommendation and repeat clients something we value greatly.
Today, our workshop is equipped with modern machinery and the capacity to deliver larger and more complex projects. Yet our ethos remains unchanged: every piece we produce is designed, made, and finished by hand here in North Norfolk, with craftsmanship, longevity, and integrity at the heart of everything we do.
In a world of mass production and short-term solutions, we take pride in creating work that is made properly built to last, and designed to form the heart of a home for many years to come.
