Our Bespoke Guide to Working with Wood

Our TOP TEN Woodworking Tips!
1). SAFETY FIRST
Always wear appropriate protective gear, especially eye protection!

2). PLAN YOUR JOB
Use a sketch pad to plan out your measurements, tools and materials

3). CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIAL
Select the right wood for the job, softwood, hardwood, MDF, Plywood etc.

4). CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOOL
Using the right tool the right way saves a lot of time and effort

5). ALWAYS SECURE WHAT YOU’RE WORKING ON
If your workpiece is not held firmly, you have very little control over your tools

6). KEEP YOUR WORK AREA TIDY
Clear tools and area after each piece or at least every day

7). WORK TO A LINE
Always draw a clear line where you need to cut, also helps if you shade or mark waste sections

8). USE TOOLS CORRECTLY
Always Saw vertically and Plane horizontally, anything else is dangerous and will give a poor result

9). CONCENTRATE AND BE CAREFUL
Try to anticipate breaks or the end of cutting, support pieces to avoid tearing

10). MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE
Get it right first time, less messing around to put things right afterwards
